Dr David Ehrlich is a highly experienced ophthalmologist who has been providing eye care to patients in Melbourne and regional Victoria for over 20 years. Before embarking on his ophthalmology training, Dr Ehrlich completed a PhD in visual neuroscience, and he has continued to be involved with research and teaching throughout his career. He treats a range of eye conditions, including cataract, glaucoma and medical retinal conditions such as diabetic retinopathy and macular degeneration.

Research & publications

Before training as an ophthalmologist, Dr Ehrlich began his medical career as a clinical researcher. He completed his PhD in visual neuroscience in 1980, and went on to gain international research experience at various research institutes across Europe and the USA. In 1986, he was awarded a CIBA Foundation Fellowship to attend a conference in London on neuronal cell death. Dr Ehrlich completed a sabbatical, as Professorial Fellow, at the University of San Diego, in the laboratory of Professor Harvey Karten. During his research career, he has authored over 60 peer-reviewed publications on the anatomy and biochemical structure and development of the visual system.
