Dr Jason Cheng is a fellowship-trained glaucoma specialist. He is an experienced surgeon who performs complex glaucoma surgery, including trabeculectomy, tube implant, angle surgery and minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS). He is a highly skilled cataract surgeon and frequently combines cataract surgery and glaucoma surgery.

Dr Cheng speaks fluent Cantonese and basic Mandarin.

Community involvement & charitable work

Providing his services for the benefit of charitable causes is important to Dr Cheng. He has volunteered his services in Indonesia (Blue Mountains Social Enterprise), Vietnam (Orbis), India (Global Eye Clinic and Tarabai Desai Eye Camp), Ghana (Touch of Light Charity Eye Camp), Pakistan (Al-Farooq Eye Camp), Cambodia (Khmer Sight Foundation) and China (China Vision Australia).

He has also recently published a children's book, 'Amazing Amber and her Lazy Laser Eye' on eye patching in amblyopia, which is being translated into several languages and made into an animation.

Dr Cheng enjoys snowboarding, scuba diving, hiking and photography.

Research & publications

Dr Cheng has strong research interests – he has been awarded over $100,000 in research grants since 2012 – and is currently involved in research projects looking to improve laser and surgical treatments for glaucoma.

He has also been part of several commercial and multicentre trials as both principal and co-investigator, as well as co-authoring multiple scientific articles and book chapters.
