Dr Mark Loane specialises in cataract surgery, including complex cataract surgery. He also treats corneal infections, as well as medical retina conditions. In addition to these specialist areas, Dr Loane provides more general eye care.

Dr Loane is heavily involved in community and charitable eye foundations. He is on the board of the Eye Foundation and Guide Dogs Queensland. He is passionate about indigenous eye health, and is Head of the Cape York Eye Health Project, whose focus is delivering eye health services to remote communities in the Cape York Peninsula. For his work with remote rural and indigenous people, he is a Member of the Order of Australia.

Personal life

Dr Loane played 29 tests for the Wallabies. In recognition of his standing in the game and the broader community, he was chosen as an ambassador for the team to represent players from the 1970s. In 2011, Dr Loane was named a Member of the Order of Australia for his work with remote rural and indigenous people.
