A/Prof Michael Lawless was recently invited to present at the Asia-Pacific Association of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (APACRS) conference in Chiang Mai, Thailand. During the conference, A/Prof Lawless provided a quick video update to discuss the SMILE technique for laser eye surgery, which is available at Vision Eye Institute’s laser eye clinics in Sydney. He explained that Vision Eye Institute laser eye surgeons have been collecting data on patient outcomes for the 4 years they have been performing SMILE, and they have seen great results.
A/Prof Lawless emphasised that SMILE is one of three great laser eye surgery procedures, along with LASIK and ASLA/PRK. The laser eye surgery procedure that he recommends to a particular patient depends on a number of factors, including the type and degree of refractive error, along with lifestyle preferences.
Associate Professor Michael Lawless is an internationally renowned corneal, cataract and laser eye surgeon who has performed more than 30,000 surgical procedures. He is an award-winning author and Clinical Associate Professor at Sydney Medical School.
