Conquering Coastrek for The Fred Hollows Foundation

Congratulations to several members of the Vision Eye Institute team, who undertook the gruelling Coastrek walks in Sydney and Melbourne to raise funds for the Fred Hollows Foundation.

First up was Monica Lette, who went above and beyond with the 60km version in Sydney on 15 March 2019. ‘The incredible support that I received from everyone, including my sponsors, spurred me on to the finish line,’ says Monica, who splits her role at Vision Eye Institute between optometrist and referrer liaison.

‘I’d really like to thank all of my supporters – it was so motivating to receive donations. I really wanted to do my best to finish.’ Monica noted that the last 10 km was a battle as her legs had well and truly checked out. ‘I also wasn’t very impressed with the kookaburra who flew past and stole a bread roll out of my hand at Bradleys Head!’

Next up was the Vision Vixens team in Melbourne on 24 May 2019. Making up the team were Nicole Moore (Vision Eye Institute Melbourne), Amanda Cranage (Head Office), Meg Constable (Vision Eye Institute Footscray) and Siobhan Todhunter (Head Office). The Vixens tackled the 30km walk and managed to grab a picture after the finish with Gabi Hollows.

In the end, Monica’s team raised $3,327, while the Vision Vixens raised nearly 6k.

Well done to all who participated!
