Recognising the symptoms of age-related macular degeneration

Are you over the age of 50? Do you experience blind spots, wavy lines in your vision, or blurred vision? If so, you should speak to your eye care provider as soon as possible about getting tested for age-related macular degeneration (AMD), which is the leading cause of lost vision for individuals over 50 years old.

When considering whether to contact your eye care professional, time is of the essence because early treatment can help save vision. And, more importantly, the disease can progress quickly in some individuals, resulting in rapid vision loss. You should be especially aware of the symptoms of AMD and get regular eye examinations if you have any of the following risks factors: you are a smoker, you are over the age of 60, or have a family history of AMD.

To learn more about AMD, its various forms, and suggestions on preventing and dealing with its symptoms, check out this article.
