Speaker of the South Australian House of Assembly, Hon. Vincent Tarzia MP, conducted the official opening of Windsor Gardens Day Surgery (WGDS) and commemorative plaque unveiling on 13 June 2019.
The speaker line-up also included Hon. Dana Wortley MP (Member for Torrens), A/Prof William Tam (Immediate Past President of the Australian Medical Association SA branch), Dr Marc Le Mire (Gastroenterologist and Inaugural Chairman of the WGDS Medical Advisory Committee) and Mr James Thiedeman (Vision Eye Institute CEO).
The speakers welcomed the contribution WGDS will make to meeting the health needs of the Adelaide northern suburbs community at a time when demands for such services are increasing. The outstanding reputation of Vison Eye Institute, its doctors and current group of day surgeries was acknowledged. WGDS’s state-of-the-art features were also recognised as a sign of Vision Eye Institute’s commitment to the safety and care of its patients.
Attendees at the official opening included medical practitioners and representatives of SA Health, as well as WGDS staff and members of the construction team (builder, architect and project manager).
The evening concluded with the presentation of ‘Twirling Healing Leaves’, an artwork representing the creation of traditional indigenous bush remedies to welcome and foster awareness of, and ties to, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island people.
