Clinic facilities

Recently refurbished, our modern and well-appointed clinic features a comfortable reception area along with diagnostic, consulting and treatment rooms.

Our clinic uses the latest equipment to examine, diagnose and treat eye disease. Our equipment includes:

  • Heidelberg Spectralis Optical Coherence Tomographer (OCT) – to aid in diagnosing and monitoring diseases of the retina
  • Humphrey Field Analyser 3 – to monitor glaucoma and visual fields
  • Zeiss IOL Master 700 – for ultrasound biometry prior to cataract surgery
  • Oculus Pentacam Corneal Topographer – to diagnose and monitor corneal conditions
  • Lasers – for various treatments, including selective laser trabeculoplasty and laser peripheral iridotomy

Clinic services

Our clinic diagnoses and treats a range of eye conditions – some of which are described below. Following your consultation, if you have any additional questions about your condition or treatment plan, feel free to ask our expert clinical staff any questions. This will assist you to make an informed decision about your eye care.

Cataract surgery

During cataract surgery, the cloudy lens of the eye is replaced with an artificial one. With significant experience using the latest lens technology, Dr Loane is well placed to help you decide on the option that best suits your vision and lifestyle needs. Cataract surgery is performed as a day surgery procedure in RiverCity Private Hospital.

Corneal procedures

Dr Loane can manage a range of conditions that affect the cornea and the front of the eye, such as iritis, corneal ulcers, recurrent corneal erosion and corneal dystrophies. Apart from minor procedures that can be carried out in the clinic consulting or treatment rooms, corneal procedures are performed in the day surgery.

Glaucoma treatment

Glaucoma is a common condition that can gradually lead to permanent sight loss. There are a number of treatment options that can stop or slow the condition from worsening. For most people, regular use of medicated eye drops is sufficient. If additional treatments are necessary, our glaucoma specialists can perform laser treatment and surgery to reduce pressure inside the eye.

Laser procedures for glaucoma (e.g. selective laser trabeculoplasty and laser peripheral iridotomy) are performed in the clinic, and are painless and quick. Surgical procedures (e.g. filtration surgery) are performed under a local anaesthetic in RiverCity Private Hospital’s day surgery facilities.

Retinal procedures

Dr Loane treats medical retinal conditions such as age-related macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy. Eye drops are used to dilate your pupil so that we can see the back of the eye, where the retina is. It is important to note that these drops will blur your vision and increase glare sensitivity – this should subside within 4 to 6 hours. Please note that you will not be able to drive home.

Treatments such as eye injections or laser therapy (which is different to laser eye surgery) may be performed on the same day, depending on the level of urgency. Retinal laser treatment is performed in the consultation room, and involves little or no discomfort.
