Dr Mark Loane AM leads a highly experienced team at Vision Eye Institute Brisbane in diagnosing and treating cataracts, glaucoma and retinal and corneal conditions. He also sees patients with a range of more general eye conditions.
Our clinic is located within the recently refurbished RiverCity Private Hospital, allowing immediate access to well equipped, modern day surgery facilities. This ensures patient convenience and continuity of care when surgical procedures are required.
Along with spacious waiting areas and modern patient amenities, our consulting rooms are fitted with state-of-the-art lasers and equipment to examine, diagnose and treat eye disease. Our technology includes:
Our clinic provides services for a range of eye conditions, including those outlined below. After your initial consultation, our expert clinical team will be available to answer your questions and assist you in making an informed decision about your eye care.
Cataract surgery is the most commonly performed eye surgery in the world. It involves keyhole surgery to remove the cloudy lens, which is replaced with an artificial intraocular lens (also called an IOL).
Dr Loane uses the latest technology to measure lens power (including the Zeiss IOLMaster 700 and the Zeiss Calisto operating microscope) and offers patients the latest Zeiss lenses to achieve excellent visual outcomes. Most of the time, he can help patients to get rid of their glasses.
Cataract surgery takes less than 30 minutes and is performed at RiverCity Private Hospital.
Although no cure exists for glaucoma, there are a number of treatments available to slow or control vision loss caused by damage to your eye (optic) nerve.
Glaucoma is most commonly caused by increased pressure inside your eye (intraocular pressure), so the first treatment option is usually medicated eye drops to reduce the pressure.
If alternative treatment is necessary, Dr Loane may perform laser treatment or surgery to reduce the pressure inside your eye. Laser treatment (e.g. selective laser trabeculoplasty and laser peripheral iridotomy) is quick and painless and can be performed in our clinic.
Minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (e.g. iStent) improves fluid drainage from the eye. The procedure is combined with cataract surgery and performed in the on-site day surgery. Other types of glaucoma surgery (e.g. filtration surgery) are performed as day procedures under local anaesthesia at RiverCity Private Hospital.
Dr Loane manages a range of conditions that affect the cornea and front of the eye, such as iritis, corneal ulcers, corneal erosion, corneal infections and pterygium (Surfer’s Eye). Some minor corneal treatments are carried out in our clinic consulting or treatment rooms, but most are performed at RiverCity Private Hospital.
Using the latest diagnostic equipment, Dr Loane can assess the health of a patient’s retina, and diagnose and monitor retinal conditions. Patients may need to be referred to a retinal specialist for certain retinal treatments or surgery.
The information on this page is general in nature. All medical and surgical procedures have potential benefits and risks. Consult your ophthalmologist for specific medical advice.
