Patients can access a range of ophthalmic services at Vision Eye Institute Melbourne. We have a team of highly credentialed and experienced ophthalmic surgeons, with particular expertise in laser eye surgery, cataract surgery and corneal conditions (in addition to general ophthalmology). Together, they have performed thousands of surgeries to help restore patients’ vision.
Our doctors are supported by a team of orthoptists, clinical optometrists and the very latest laser technology.

We offer a free, no-obligation initial assessment with one of our optometrists to determine if you meet the eligibility criteria. These assessments are available throughout the week and on Saturdays (bookings essential). If you are eligible, you will then require a consultation with one of our refractive ophthalmologists. If you are travelling from interstate, the cost of one night’s stay in a nearby hotel can be included as part of your package.

In Focus

Our new SCHWIND AMARIS laser has arrived

The SCHWIND AMARIS 1050RS is the only excimer laser system that operates at 1050 Hz and comes with active 7D eye tracking. This means that all eye movements are recorded and actively compensated for 1050 times per second. As an added bonus, patients undergoing LASIK can now remain on the same bed throughout the entire procedure.

Overall, patients benefit from a shortened treatment time and enhanced safety.

The arrival of this new laser means our patients continue to have access to some of the most highly sophisticated laser technology available.

Clinic services

When you first visit our clinic, you will have a comprehensive set of visual tests. One of our highly trained orthoptists will meet with you to prepare you for your consultation with your doctor. We are always happy to answer any questions you may have – our goal is to assist you in making a fully informed decision about your treatment.

Laser eye surgery

With the advancements in technology, we can now help the majority of people who wear glasses with some form of vision correction procedure – even if you’ve previously been told you don’t qualify. We specialise in laser eye surgery, including LASIK, ASLA/PRK (including trans-epithelial PRK) and refractive lens exchange or lens implant.

You’ll need to have an initial consultation so that we can carefully check your eyes and determine if you are suitable for a vision correction procedure, whether that be laser eye surgery or another type of procedure. This takes around 1–2 hours, and involves in-depth diagnostic tests and a thorough eye examination.

The laser surgery itself is performed in our on-site laser suite. Refractive lens exchange or lens implants are performed at Vision Day Surgery Camberwell or Panch Day Surgery.

Do you qualify for laser eye surgery?

We offer a free, no-obligation initial assessment with one of our optometrists to determine if you meet the eligibility criteria. These assessments are available throughout the week and on Saturdays (bookings essential). If you are eligible, you will then require a consultation with one of our refractive ophthalmologists.

Appointments with our optometrists are free of charge and there is no obligation to book a consultation with an ophthalmologist.

Consultations with an ophthalmologist attract a fee (a Medicare rebate is available). There is no obligation to proceed with surgery.

For your convenience, we offer flexible interest-free payment options.

Cataract surgery

During cataract surgery, the cloudy lens of the eye is replaced with an artificial one. There are a variety of replacement lens options available, and your doctor will help you decide on the lens type that best suits your vision and lifestyle needs. Cataract surgeries are performed in a day surgery and take approximately two hours.
