In addition to treating general eye conditions, our doctors specialise in the diagnosis and management of glaucoma, cataracts, retinal and corneal conditions, strabismus and paediatric ophthalmology for your child’s vision needs. Patients often comment on our friendly, attentive and efficient service, as well as our willingness to accommodate emergency situations.
I have attended with my husband the Vision eye institute at Mosman for some years. We have always found the staff to be wonderful, professional and caring.
Vision Eye Institute Mosman is equipped with the latest technological advances and equipment to ensure that our doctors can deliver high quality eye care.
In addition to our state-of-the-art laser equipment, we have an optical coherence tomography (OCT) imaging system that we use to scan the retina and optic nerve, which aids in diagnosing and monitoring retinal diseases and glaucoma.
Day surgery procedures are performed at Vision Day Surgery Chatswood.
Our clinic diagnoses and treats a range of eye conditions – some of which are described below. After your consultation, an orthoptist is available to answer any additional questions you have about your condition and treatment plan or vision correction procedure, so that you can make an informed decision about your eye care.
Cataract surgery involves replacing the cloudy lens of the eye with an artificial one. With laser cataract surgery, a femtosecond laser is used to perform some of the steps that the surgeon would otherwise perform by hand. Our cataract surgeons were some of the first surgeons in Australia to perform laser cataract surgery and are highly experienced in both techniques. There are a variety of replacement lens options available, and your doctor will help you decide on the lens type that best suits your vision and lifestyle needs. Cataract surgery is performed in a day surgery.
We see all patients with retinal conditions, including age-related macular degeneration, floaters, diabetic retinopathy and retinal detachment. Eye drops are used to dilate your pupil so that we can examine the back of your eye, where the retina is. Your vision will be blurry and you will have increased sensitivity to glare – this should subside within 4 to 6 hours. Please note that you will not be able to drive home and will need to make other arrangements.
Treatments such as eye injections or laser therapy (which is different to laser eye surgery) may be performed on the same day, depending on the level of urgency. Retinal laser treatment is performed in the consultation room, and involves little or no discomfort. Patients requiring retinal surgery will have their procedure performed in a day surgery.
Glaucoma is a common condition that can gradually lead to permanent sight loss, but there are a number of treatment options that can stop or slow the condition from worsening. Most patients can manage their glaucoma with medicated eye drops, but some people may require another treatment. Your doctor may recommend surgery to improve fluid removal from the eye – options include selective laser trabeculoplasty, laser peripheral iridotomy, filtration surgery (trabeculectomy) and minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (e.g. iStent).
Our corneal specialists commonly diagnose and manage disorders such as keratoconus, pterygium (Surfer’s Eye), corneal ulcers, recurrent corneal erosion and corneal dystrophies. They have expertise in performing complex procedures, such as corneal transplantation, corneal ring implants, collagen cross-linking and pterygium removal.
Apart from minor procedures that can be carried out in the clinic consulting or treatment rooms, corneal procedures are performed in the day surgery.
Some of the doctors at Vision Eye Institute Mosman specialise in diagnosing and treating paediatric eye conditions. Our doctors can review any eye issues identified in routine health checkups with your optometrist, GP or maternal and child health nurse.

DO NOT DRIVE YOURSELF TO YOUR APPOINTMENT – please ask someone to drive and accompany you to the clinic instead. During your visit, dilating drops will be applied to your eyes to allow us to examine your retina. These drops blur your vision and increase sensitivity to glare. You will not be able to drive safely for 4 to 6 hours afterwards.
Most bus routes stop directly outside the clinic.
If coming via train, these bus connections can be accessed from Wynyard, North Sydney, St Leonards and Chatswood stations. From the Northern Beaches, take the B-Line service to Spit Junction, which connects to express bus routes 246 or 249 plus many non-express buses that stop directly outside the clinic.
The clinic is located on the ground floor and has convenient access for people with limited mobility.
