We are Australia’s largest provider of ophthalmic services, with a strong commitment to clinical and scientific excellence and delivering the highest quality outcomes for patients. We achieve this through our dedication to best-practice care, academia and research, and by employing state-of-the-art equipment and facilities.
Initially established as a group practice in Victoria in 2001, Vision Eye Institute quickly expanded to include numerous sites along the eastern seaboard and is now the largest private provider of ophthalmic care in Australia.
Our doctor team includes a mix of partners, associates and visiting medical officers – many of whom have introduced new surgical techniques and technologies into Australia and are highly regarded by their peers, both locally and internationally. Their dedication extends to active involvement with clinical research; teaching and examining medical students, optometry students, optometrists and ophthalmology trainees; and presenting at local and international conferences.
In addition to private practice, a number of Vision Eye Institute doctors hold academic positions, including professorships and associate professorships. Many of our doctors also practise and/or teach at large hospitals, while others are actively involved in local and international charity programs that make use of their ophthalmic skills and expertise.
Vision Eye Institute is committed to delivering personalised, safe, high-quality care through the pursuit of clinical and scientific excellence. Our Board of Directors, Medical Advisory Board, Clinical Care Committee and Executive Management Team provide strategic leadership to ensure that we deliver on this commitment.
Our boutique, specialist clinics and day surgeries provide doctors and patients access to the latest equipment and technology – sometimes before it’s available anywhere else in the country. Each of our day surgeries are accredited against ISO 9001 and the National Safety and Quality Health Services Standards, with an on-site Director of Nursing to lead the clinical support team. Our laser suites and most of our consulting rooms are ISO accredited. We are working towards achieving accreditation in all of our consulting rooms, in line with RANZCO guidance.
Consulting clinics are also staffed with dedicated clinical support personnel, such as optometrists and orthoptists. Vision Eye Institute’s experienced administrative and reception teams also help ensure that the doctor–patient experience is a seamless one.
To minimise patient risk, and to monitor and improve the quality of our services, we have established robust quality management systems with a clinical governance framework that includes:
Because patients are at the heart of everything we do, we place great value on their feedback. Satisfaction surveys are regularly conducted to ensure that we are indeed delivering best-practice care. All patient feedback, suggestions and complaints are taken seriously and reviewed internally, with further action where appropriate.
We also collect safety and quality data to compare against national benchmarks, conduct internal and external audits, ensure that our staff undergo a rigorous credentialing process and receive comprehensive training, promote a culture of transparency, and regularly review clinical risk and safety policies in accordance with evidence-based best practice.
As a patient-focused company, Vision Eye Institute aims to deliver the best possible clinical outcomes. To achieve this, our practice must continue to evaluate and innovate.
Vision Eye Institute’s doctors have created a culture that emphasises rigorous clinical review. Through regular, methodical and comprehensive review of all facets of clinical and surgical practice, our doctors can readily benchmark themselves against best-practice outcomes. The demand for our doctors to share their results and experiences at scientific conferences, both locally and overseas, is testament to our ability to deliver a consistently high standard of patient care and clinical outcomes.
Due to the size of our organisation, we are able to support our doctors with a dedicated research team. This team is responsible for translating the data into peer-reviewed research articles and extending the group’s research interests.
In the past 5 years, Vision Eye Institute doctors have published more than 150 articles in local and international peer-reviewed journals, which is greater than any other private ophthalmic group in the country.
Given our strong presence within the scientific community, we are also often approached to conduct clinical trials on behalf of companies. This, in turn, provides our doctors with an opportunity to access the very latest clinical and surgical technology – a significant benefit that allows our patients to be at the forefront of ophthalmic care.

Vision Eye Institute is ideally placed to support doctors looking to build their practice and clinical profile in a friendly, collegiate environment. Increasingly complex healthcare markets are a major driver for many medical professionals, including ophthalmologists, to seek larger, more collaborative team environments. We provide a forum for doctors to discuss their practices, interesting or difficult cases, and current research findings. Every year, Vision Eye Institute hosts a conference for all doctor partners to network, share updates, address concerns and consider the latest learnings in each ophthalmic subspecialty area.
