Prof Gerard Sutton has initiated a new indigenous eye care program

07/07/2022

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are at a significant disadvantage when it comes to eye health – the rate of blindness and vision loss among Indigenous people is three times that of other Australians. Recently, Vision Eye Institute’s Prof Gerard Sutton initiated a new Indigenous eye health program that aims to close this gap, in partnership with the Sydney Eye Hospital, the Sydney Eye Hospital Foundation and Prince of Wales Hospital.

Watch the video below to find out more about the program from Prof Sutton.

Fundraising launch a success

A recent fundraiser held to both launch and raise funds for the initiative brought in an incredible $50,000. The lunch included a list of impressive speakers, including Joe Hockey, former Australian Ambassador to the United States.

Congratulations to Prof Sutton and the Sydney Eye Hospital Foundation for spearheading this worthy cause.
