Important COVID-19 update

02/04/2020

Coronavirus

During this time of uncertainty with COVID-19, we would like to assure you that the health and wellbeing of patients, carers, staff and doctors continue to be our top priority.

Vision Eye Institute, through its management team and medical advisory board, has been closely monitoring the situation and responding to the latest advice from the Australian Government’s Department of Health and Chief Medical Officer.

Vision Eye Institute practices remain open but may have restricted hours and may only accept non-routine or emergency consultations. In some instances,  routine consultations will be postponed or performed via a Telehealth consultation.  Please call the practice for details prior to your visit.

Our day surgeries are closed for non-urgent elective surgery admissions in accordance with the  Australian Government directive, effective from 2 April 2020. Please call your treating surgeon to confirm whether your procedure will occur as scheduled.

We have introduced strict social distancing practices to limit the number of people in our waiting rooms at all times.

We already have a number of strict hygiene protocols in place and have also implemented additional responses to further minimise any risk. As a precaution, we ask that you:

  • Let us know prior to any scheduled appointment or surgery if you have returned from overseas travel or had contact with a suspected or confirmed case of coronavirus (COVID-19) in the last 14 days
  • Only attend your appointment or surgery with a maximum of one carer
  • Only attend your appointment or surgery if you are well and do not have a temperature, cough or cold

If attending an appointment or surgery, you will be asked to sign a declaration that you meet all of the above requirements.

Alcohol-based hand rub is available at reception and all visitors are asked to clean their hands thoroughly on arrival.  Please ensure you cover any coughs or sneezes with a tissue (and dispose of the tissue appropriately)

All of our sites undertake two-hourly cleaning of all surfaces, with ample supplies of hand sanitiser for staff and visitors.

We appreciate your assistance in ensuring we are able to safely meet the needs of our patients who require urgent services at this time.

If you have an appointment with VEI in the near future, one of our team will be in touch via SMS or phone with further information.

For more information about COVID-19, please please visit the Australian Government’s health alert web page.

To contact us, please call your local Vision Eye Institute clinic or day surgery.
