Presbyopia (reading glasses) surgery in Brisbane
Presbyopia (reading glasses) surgery in Brisbane
Presbyopia is caused by the lens inside your eye becoming less flexible as you get older. This makes it harder for your eye to switch focus between objects that are close and far away.1, 2
There are several treatment options for presbyopia including glasses, contact lenses, topical treatments like eye drops, and surgery. Topical treatments usually need to be applied daily, and side effects like headaches can occur.
Surgery is a more permanent treatment for presbyopia that can reduce or even remove dependence on reading glasses, with no need for daily drops or contact lenses.
The right treatment option for you depends on your eyes, lifestyle and vision goals.
Our Brisbane eye clinic offers surgical options to treat presbyopia to reduce or even remove dependence on reading glasses. This is includes:
- Refractive lens exchange (RLE): also known as lens replacement surgery, this procedure replaces your eye’s natural lens with an artificial one. For presbyopia treatment, this could be a multifocal lens or an extended depth of focus (EDoF) lens. Both lenses are designed to give you clear vision at multiple distances.
Visit our Presbyopia service page to learn more or to book a consultation with a Vision Eye Institute ophthalmologist and find out if you’re a good fit for treatment.

Dry eye diagnosis and management in Brisbane
Dry eye is more common in females, older people and office environments, where there is a lot of computer work and dry air due to constant heating/cooling. Symptoms of dry eye include itching, watering, redness, burning, grittiness, fluctuating vision and sensitivity to light. It is often confused with allergies.

Pterygium treatment in Brisbane
Pterygium treatment in Brisbane
People who spend a lot of time outside in sunny, windy conditions have a higher risk of developing a pterygium (also called Surfer’s Eye). A pterygium is a (usually) benign growth involving the conjunctival layer of the eye. It is often fleshy and triangular-shaped.
Pterygium treatment is not required unless the growth occurs onto the cornea, where it may cause scarring and/or distort vision. If this happens, one of our Brisbane eye surgeons can perform pterygium surgery to remove it.
