Dr Joe Reich’s fifth book released

16/06/2021

As well as being a highly experienced cataract and refractive surgeon, Vision Eye Institute’s Dr Joe Reich AM is an accomplished artist and author. He also donates 100% of the proceeds from sales of his books and paintings to charity.

Dr Reich recently released his fifth book, Ein Stein, to glowing reviews in The Sydney Morning Herald and Melbourne’s The Age.

Here is what Kerryn Goldsworthy, book reviewer at The Age, had to say about Ein Stein:

Positive review written by Kerryn Goldsworthy and published in The Age newspaper

Ein Stein has also received a number of other favourable reviews:

‘The inspiration for this remarkable book by Melbourne ophthalmologist Joe Reich AM was, he tells us in the Acknowledgements, his previous book, the biography of Zwi Lewin (My Sack of Memories, see my review) and the difficulty of reconciling memory with history. The result, in Ein Stein, is a cunningly constructed mystery which kept me reading long after I should have turned out the light.’ – Lisa Hill, ANZ LitLovers blog.

‘Ein Stein is a real page-turner and a terrific read.’ – Esther Kister, Chairperson, Melbourne Jewish Book Week.

When asked what inspired this story, Dr Reich detailed his interest in rich character development. In this instance, he ‘decided to create a character that was deliberately misleading,’ using this to build a storyline that is shrouded in mystery.

Congratulations, Dr Reich, and we look forward to reading this intriguing story.

Ein Stein is available in softcover and ebook formats from all good booksellers.

Proceeds from the sale of Ein Stein will go towards the Emmy Monash Nursing Home in Melbourne, and other causes such as nursing scholarships for Ethiopian–Israelis at Hadassah Hospital in Israel.
