Held at the Sofitel in Sydney, the 2025 Alcon Focus meeting once again showcased the expertise and insights of leading ophthalmologists from across the country.
Vision Eye Institute was well-represented, both on and off the podium. The event was moderated by our dynamic duo, Dr Tess Huynh from Vision Eye Institute Sydney and Dr Lewis Levitz from Vision Eye Institute Melbourne, alongside A/Prof Chandra Bala.
Dr Huynh kicked off the first session with a presentation on managing cataract patients with abnormal corneas. Her talk included methods for assessing corneal pathology that could impact cataract surgery, supported by case studies aimed at boosting the confidence of novice surgeons.
Dr Joe Reich followed with a discussion on his extensive experience with over 1,200 trifocal intraocular lenses. He traced the evolution of cataract surgery through his journey with various lenses, presenting an audit of his last 80 trifocal lenses and a literature review comparing monofocal, extended depth of focus (EDOF) and trifocal lenses.
Dr Levitz similarly shared his insights on implanting over 1,200 EDOF lenses, acknowledging the pioneering work of fellow Vision Eye Institute colleague, Dr Uday Bhatt. He highlighted the significant role of Vision Eye Institute Clinical Research Coordinator, Dr Chris Hodge PhD, in reviewing pre-operative and post-operative data, which has been instrumental in improving surgical outcomes.
Dr Levitz also moderated the final session, before Dr Huynh and Ms Penny Stewart from Alcon concluded the meeting.
Other Vision Eye Institute doctors in attendance included A/Prof Tim Roberts, Dr David Ng, Dr Raj Pathmaraj, Dr Rushmia Karim, Dr Simon Chen, Dr Simone Beheregaray, Dr Alex Ioannidis and Dr Uday Bhatt.
