Virtual consultations now available at Hurstville clinic

30/10/2019

virtual clinical consultation

Vision Eye Institute’s Hurstville clinic is now offering virtual consultations with A/Prof Michael Lawless and Prof Gerard Sutton to increase their availability to patients seeking laser eye surgery. This follows increased demand for vision correction procedures at our refractive clinics in Sydney, including LASIK, SMILE®, ASLA/PRK, refractive lens exchange/lens implants, and implantable contact lens procedures.

In-clinic consultations with both doctors will continue to be available to patients who prefer this option.

We will also be implementing virtual consultations for laser eye surgery at Vision Eye Institute Bondi Junction.

What does a virtual consultation involve?

  1. Patients who have booked a virtual consultation appointment arrive at the Hurstville clinic at their designated time and have a pre-consultation examination with one of our orthoptists as normal.
  2. The surgeon will then be able to immediately assess the patient’s test and scan results via their electronic medical record.
  3. The orthoptist is present during the video consultation to perform the final test on the patient (slit-lamp examination), with real-time images transmitted to the surgeon. The surgeon will have a comprehensive discussion with the patient about their surgical options.
