Footscray Day Surgery is an accredited, purpose-built facility for ophthalmic surgery. The day surgery features state-of-the-art equipment and technology to support the latest surgical techniques, optimise patient outcomes and ensure patient comfort at all times.

All Vision Eye Institute day surgeries are accredited against ISO 9001 and National Safety and Quality Health Services Standards, with an on-site director of nursing to lead the clinical support team.

Surgery services

Footscray Day Surgery is a specialist day surgery facility for ophthalmic procedures, including:

  • Cataract and lens surgery
  • Glaucoma surgery (e.g. iStent, trabeculectomy)
  • Intravitreal injections
  • Corneal procedures including alcohol delamination
  • Reconstructive surgery (oculoplastics):
    • Blepharoplasty
    • Ectropian repair
    • Entropian repair
    • Ptosis repair
    • Conjunctivoplasty
    • Pterygium and autoconjunctival graft
    • Pingueculum
    • Excision of lesions (e.g. basal cell carcinoma)

Getting here

By car

Our day surgery is located in the heart of Footscray, diagonally opposite the Footscray library. Parking is available on Paisley Street, with most parking spots available for one or two hours. There is a three-hour car park on Paisley Street (on the same side as the clinic).

PLEASE ARRANGE FOR A RESPONSIBLE PERSON TO ACCOMPANY YOU HOME AFTER YOUR SURGERY. Certain types of anaesthesia may cause drowsiness and impair your mental alertness. You will not be allowed to drive home.

By public transport

West Footscray and Footscray are the nearest train stations – both are within a 10-minute walk. There is also a bus stop for routes 219 and 216 located directly outside the day surgery.

Disability access

Our day surgery is located on the ground level and is easily accessible for people with limited mobility.
