Expanding our vision: a snapshot of 2023 at Vision Eye Institute

This year has flown by! With the holiday season fast approaching, we’d like to take a moment to reflect on another incredible year at Vision Eye Institute.

2023 marked the beginning of a new era for us, with the appointment of our new CEO Amanda Cranage. Ms Cranage has held various executive positions at Vision Eye Institute, most recently as General Manager of Operations – Victoria. She is renowned for her leadership, innovative thinking, and profound understanding of Vision Eye Institute’s unwavering commitment to patient care.

This phase of new growth has echoed through our clinics. In New South Wales, we bade a fond farewell to Dr Roger McGuinness from our Bondi clinic as he ventures into retirement. We have also welcomed Dr Sebastian Brown to our Hurstville clinic and Dr Michael Wei to our Bondi clinic. Both Dr Brown and Dr Wei offer operations at Forest Road Day Surgery.

Our burgeoning South Australian team has gone from strength to strength this year. This year we have welcomed ophthalmologist Dr Tiger Zhou to our doctor team – he has commenced practice at all three of our Adelaide clinics and operates out of Forest Road Day Surgery.

Dr Soo Khai Ng and Dr Simone Beheregaray recently expanded their services across our clinics in South Australia. Patients can see Dr Ng at our Kurralta Park, North Adelaide and Windsor Gardens clinics, and at our satellite location in Calvary Central Districts. Dr Beheregaray is available for consultation at the North Adelaide and Windsor Gardens clinics, and at Calvary Central Districts.

We have also introduced laser eye surgery services at our North Adelaide clinic, led by Dr Paul Athanasiov and Dr Beheregaray.

There have been some exciting changes in Victoria, most recently with the opening of our Boroondara Day Surgery in Hawthorn. Boroondara is our fifth day surgery in Victoria and features an operating theatre fitted with the latest equipment, an on-site sterile supply department, multiple consulting rooms and two spacious recovery areas for our patients. Theatre sessions are filling fast!

Our Footscray clinic has seen some significant transformations this year. As well as undergoing a complete refurbishment, the clinic has also been joined by the ophthalmology team from Western Eye Specialists. Led by Dr John McKenzie, the team includes Dr Brian Ang, Dr Jonathan Goh and Dr Andrew Shaw (who also practises at our Box Hill clinic). In addition, the Footscray clinic has welcomed Dr Philip Hoffman from our Camberwell clinic and Dr Daniel McKay from our Box Hill clinic, who now divide their time between Footscray and their other clinics.

We have also opened a new intravitreal injection clinic in Blackburn South, led by Dr Christolyn Raj. This represents an extension of our dedicated intravitreal injection services, complementing our existing Boronia clinic led by Dr Devinder Chauhan.

Meanwhile, Dr Jack Kane has expanded his services – he is now consulting at Vision Eye Institute Melbourne, while continuing to practise at our Camberwell clinic.

In Queensland, our Brisbane clinic saw the full-time return of Dr Lee Lenton as he consolidated his two Queensland practices.

And finally, we have had the privilege to provide care to thousands of patients across our network of clinics and day surgeries. We have also hosted 18 continuing education events over the year, many of which allowed us to reconnect with our optometric colleagues in person after two years online.

So it’s been a big year! We sincerely thank all our dedicated doctors, staff and referrers, and we look forward to continuing to provide world-class patient care in 2024.
