Commonly referred to as Vision Laser Townsville, our clinic in Pimlico is the only ophthalmic practice in Townsville to offer laser eye surgery. People come from all over Far North Queensland to access our services, not only because of our location but also because of the great reputation of our ophthalmic surgeon, Dr Lee Lenton. When he founded this clinic over 20 years ago, Dr Lenton was the first dedicated laser eye surgeon in Townsville. He is now widely recognised as a pioneering Queensland eye surgeon, ably supported by a friendly, dedicated and long-serving clinical team.

Dr Lenton specialises in laser eye surgery – he has performed over 15,000 LASIK procedures and many thousands of ASLA/PRK procedures. He also specialises in cataract surgery and refractive lens exchange, with expertise in the latest replacement lens technology, including trifocal lenses.

In Focus

Comparing the cost of laser eye surgery between providers?

Make sure you know exactly what is included in the quoted price, so you don’t get caught out by unexpected costs. There are no ‘hidden fees’ at Vision Eye Institute Townsville – our quote includes the pre-surgical consultation, your procedure, medications, 6 months of post-operative care and any enhancements (if needed) within 2 years of the initial surgery.

Clinic facilities

Vision Eye Institute Townsville’s modern surgery is well-appointed to ensure every patient receives the highest possible standard of care. Our clinic has a dedicated, fully equipped laser suite and day surgery so surgical procedures can be performed on-site for patient convenience and continuity of care. The laser suite was recently fitted with the NIDEK EC-5000 excimer laser system, the latest in advanced laser technology. Our laser technology is equally matched by the latest diagnostic equipment, meaning that all surgical patients receive a fully customised outcome for optimal results.

We recognise that a pleasant patient experience comes down to more than just a successful treatment. That’s why our friendly clinic team always greet our patients by their name and with a smile. Patients are then able to make themselves comfortable in our waiting rooms, which are light, bright and airy thanks to the vaulted ceilings and skylights. We offer complimentary tea, coffee or water while you wait, but always endeavour to keep waiting times to a minimum. Tropical gardens surrounding our clinic add to the calm and relaxing atmosphere.

Clinic services

Vision Eye Institute Townsville offers two main services – laser eye surgery and cataract/lens exchange surgery. We always strive to provide a caring and responsive service, where patients are fully satisfied with their visual outcomes. Our patients comment on how thorough their pre-surgical assessment is and how the clinic team are always willing and able to answer all of their queries.

Members of our team also speak Dutch and German should patients prefer to have their consultation in one of these languages.

Laser eye surgery

Almost everyone who has a refractive error (e.g. short-sightedness, long-sightedness and/or astigmatism) will be suitable for a form of vision correction that can help them no longer need (or depend less on) their glasses or contact lenses. Dr Lenton specialises in vision correction and performs laser eye surgery (LASIK and ASLA/PRK), as well as non-laser procedure such as refractive lens exchange and implantable lenses for patients who are not eligible for laser eye surgery.

At the initial assessment consultation, we’ll use a number of tests to carefully check your eyes and determine if you are suitable for vision correction and, if so, which procedure is most appropriate for you. We’ll also give you a detailed quote of the cost of your recommended procedure, should you choose to proceed. As with any surgery, there are benefits and risks and Dr Lenton will discuss these with you to help you make an informed decision.

Laser eye surgery is performed in our state-of-the-art laser suite.

Cataract surgery and lens exchange

Dr Lenton specialises in cataract surgery and refractive lens exchange. These surgical procedures involve the same technique – the eye’s natural lens is removed and replaced with an artificial one. The removed lens is either cloudy (e.g. cataract surgery) or clear but dysfunctional (refractive lens exchange). People choose to have their dysfunctional clear lens replaced to correct a refractive error (e.g. short-sightedness, long-sightedness and/or astigmatism).

With significant experience using the latest replacement lens technology, including trifocal lenses, Dr Lenton is well placed to help you select the lens type that best suits your vision and lifestyle needs.

Cataract surgery and refractive lens exchange is performed in our day surgery, which is conveniently co-located on-site with our clinic.
