Dr Lei Liu is a highly skilled surgeon with special interests in glaucoma, cataracts and general ophthalmology. She has over a decade of local and international experience, having trained and practised in Germany, the UK and Australia.

Over the course of her career, Dr Liu has developed particular expertise in glaucoma filtration and drainage surgery, cataract surgery and refractive lens exchange, and combined procedures for both cataracts and glaucoma. Additionally, Dr Liu diagnoses and treats a range of more general eye conditions. 

She is also an ophthalmology consultant at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital and the Alfred Hospital.

Dr Liu has been an author and lead investigator on a number of peer-reviewed journal articles since 2004. Her research has centred around ocular immunology, and response and regulation in vascular eye diseases. Most recently, Dr Liu’s research at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital has focused on retinal blood flow in glaucoma patients undergoing OCT angiography. Since 2006, Dr Liu has been the recipient of several international research grants, with funding totaling over £225,000.
