Laser eye surgery free assessment

If you are considering laser eye surgery, we offer a free initial assessment with our clinical team to determine if you meet the eligibility criteria. These assessments are available throughout the week. If you are eligible, the next step is a more thorough consultation with one of our ophthalmologists who will answer all your questions in preparation for booking your laser eye surgery.

Consultations with an ophthalmologist attract a fee (a Medicare rebate is available). There is no obligation to proceed with surgery after consulting with one of our ophthalmologists.

For your convenience, we offer flexible interest-free payment options for laser eye surgery in partnership with humm and Latitude Gem Visa.

humm* provides interest-free payment plans you can repay over time.

Latitude Gem Visa† may be available for laser eye surgery procedures (credit limit subject to approval). Latitude Gem Visa offers interest-free payment plans, low monthly account fees and fast approval.

Laser eye surgery

Most people with a refractive error, such as short-sightedness, long-sightedness and/or astigmatism, will be eligible for some form of vision correction to help them reduce their dependence on glasses and contact lenses. Dr Paul Athanasiov and Dr Simone Beheregaray perform laser eye surgery (LASIK and ASLA/PRK), as well as non-laser procedures such as refractive lens exchange for people who are not eligible for laser eye surgery.

At the free initial assessment consultation, we’ll use a number of tests to carefully check your eyes and determine if you are suitable for vision correction and, if so, which procedure is most appropriate for you. We’ll also give you a detailed quote of the cost of your recommended procedure, should you choose to proceed. As with any surgery, there are benefits and risks and your laser eye surgeon and will discuss these with you to help you make an informed decision.

If you would like to book a free assessment, call the clinic on 08 8239 0118 or click here to book.

Laser eye surgery is performed on-site.

Cataract surgery

Cataract surgery involves replacing the cloudy lens of the eye with an artificial one. Our Adelaide eye surgeons can treat early to advanced cataracts and perform complex cataract surgery.

There are a variety of replacement lens options available, and your eye doctor will help you decide on the lens type that best suits your vision and lifestyle needs. Cataract surgery is performed as a day surgery procedure and usually takes less than 30 minutes (although you will be in the day surgery for approximately two hours in total).

Glaucoma management

Glaucoma is a common condition that can gradually lead to permanent sight loss, but there are a number of treatment options that can stop or slow the condition. Most patients can manage their glaucoma with medicated eye drops, but some people may require another treatment.

Laser procedures for glaucoma (e.g. selective laser trabeculoplasty and laser peripheral iridotomy) are performed in the eye clinic and are painless and quick. Surgical procedures (e.g. filtration surgery and MIGS/iStent) are performed under twilight sedation in a day surgery.

Macular disease treatment

We see patients with age-related macular degeneration and diabetic macular oedema. If you have a macular condition, eye drops are used to dilate your pupil so that we can examine the back of your eye, where the retina is. Your vision will be blurry and you will have increased sensitivity to glare – this should subside within 4 to 6 hours. Please note that you will not be able to drive home and will need to make other arrangements.

Treatments such as eye injections or laser therapy (which is different to laser eye surgery) may be performed on the same day, depending on the level of urgency. Retinal laser treatment is performed in the consultation room.

Corneal procedures

Our corneal specialists commonly diagnose and manage disorders such as keratoconus, pterygium (Surfer’s Eye) and corneal dystrophies. They have expertise in performing complex procedures, such as corneal transplantation, scar excision and pterygium removal.

Minor procedures

We also perform YAG laser capsulotomy for posterior capsule opacity after cataract surgery (to clear scar tissue from behind the lens).

The information on this page is general in nature. All medical and surgical procedures have potential benefits and risks. Consult your ophthalmologist for specific medical advice.
