Vision Eye Institute Footscray is the oldest ophthalmology clinic in the western suburbs of Melbourne – we have been providing high-quality eye care to the local community since 1960. Many of our patients remark that their families have been coming to our clinic for generations.
Our Footscray clinic is home to general ophthalmologists as well as highly regarded specialists in cataract surgery, corneal conditions, glaucoma and retinal conditions. Our doctors are involved in ground-breaking research into treatments for debilitating eye conditions, ensuring we remain up to date with the latest in ophthalmic care.
Though our clinic is busy, patients never feel rushed and we endeavour to make sure all their questions are answered. We also accommodate emergency patients and same-day appointments for patients who need urgent eye care, where possible.
We accept new patients.
Our affordable eye injection clinic aims to make treatment more affordable and accessible, so you can keep up with your injections.
After your initial consultation with one of our specialists (initial consultation fees apply), all follow up injection appointments are bulk billed.
Simply call the clinic on (03) 9689 9233 and our friendly staff will talk you through the process.

We aim to make your experience at our newly-refurbished clinic as smooth and comfortable as possible. After you are greeted by our friendly reception staff, you will be guided to one of our waiting rooms. These are fitted with televisions and water dispensers, and complimentary WiFi is available.
Our clinic is wheelchair accessible, with a wheelchair accessible
entrance, elevator and restroom. We also have a baby change room on-site.
Your consultation will take place in one of our 19 consulting rooms. Minor procedures are performed in our treatment rooms and laser procedures are performed in our on-site laser rooms. Our clinic is equipped with the latest ophthalmic technology for diagnostics and treatment, including three lasers, four optical coherence tomography (OCT) imaging systems, four Humphrey Field machines, two Pentacams for corneal topography and fundus cameras.
Surgical and vision correction procedures are performed on-site at our co-located day surgery (Footscray Day Surgery), ensuring patient convenience and continuity of care.
Members of our staff speak Arabic, Cantonese, Filipino, Hindi, Indonesian, Korean, Mandarin, Vietnamese, Macedonian and Italian.
Our team always takes the time to explain tests and answer any questions you may have about your condition and treatment options. We also try our best to accommodate any additional tests you may need during your consultation, so that you can receive all the necessary eye care in one visit.
Our clinic specialises in testing, diagnosis and treatment for age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, macular hole, epiretinal membrane, retinal detachment and all other retinal conditions.
You will be given pupil-dilating eye drops so that your retinal specialist can view the retina at the back of the eye using sophisticated imaging technology. These eye drops cause blurred vision for about 4–6 hours, so you may not be able to drive yourself home and should make alternative arrangements.
We are able to perform all testing and initiate treatment (e.g. eye injections or laser therapy) on the first consultation for patients with medical retinal conditions. Retinal laser treatment is performed in the consultation room, and involves little or no discomfort. Patients requiring retinal surgery will have their procedure in the on-site day surgery.
During cataract surgery, the cloudy lens of the eye is replaced with an artificial lens known as an intraocular lens or IOL. Traditionally, the entire operation was performed manually, but now surgeons can use laser technology to complete some of the steps. Our surgeons are leaders in the field of cataract surgery. They offer both manual and laser cataract surgery, as well as the latest replacement lenses to suit your vision and lifestyle needs.
Cataract surgeries are performed in our on-site day surgery.
Glaucoma is a common condition that can gradually lead to permanent sight loss, but there are a number of treatment options that can stop or slow the condition from worsening. For most people, regular use of medicated eye drops is sufficient. If additional treatments are necessary, our glaucoma specialists can perform laser treatment and surgery to reduce pressure inside the eye.
Laser procedures for glaucoma (e.g. selective laser trabeculoplasty and laser peripheral iridotomy) are performed in the clinic, and are painless and quick. Surgical procedures (e.g. filtration surgery) are performed under a local anaesthetic in our day surgery.
Patients can access testing and treatment for corneal conditions at our clinic. Our team of experienced corneal specialists have expertise in keratoconus, corneal ulcers, pterygium (Surfer’s Eye), recurrent corneal erosion, corneal dystrophies and other corneal conditions. They specialise in complex treatments such as collagen cross-linking, corneal transplantation, corneal ring implants and pterygium removal.
The majority of procedures are performed in our day surgery, though some minor procedures are carried out in consulting or treatment rooms.
The information on this page is general in nature. All medical and surgical procedures have potential benefits and risks. Consult your ophthalmologist for specific medical advice.
