Cataract surgery involves replacing the cloudy lens of the eye with an artificial one. Our ophthalmic surgeons can treat early to advanced cataracts and perform complex cataract surgery.
There are a variety of replacement lens options available, and your doctor will help you decide on the lens type that best suits your vision and lifestyle needs. Cataract surgery is performed as a day surgery procedure and usually takes less than 30 minutes (although you will be in the day surgery for approximately two hours in total).
Glaucoma is a common condition that can gradually lead to permanent sight loss, but there are a number of treatment options that can stop or slow the condition. Most patients can manage their glaucoma with medicated eye drops, but some people may require another treatment.
Laser procedures for glaucoma (e.g. selective laser trabeculoplasty and laser peripheral iridotomy) are performed in the clinic and are painless and quick. Surgical procedures (e.g. filtration surgery and MIGS/iStent) are performed under twilight sedation in the day surgery.

We see patients with age-related macular degeneration and diabetic macular oedema. If you have a macular condition, eye drops may be used to dilate your pupil so that we can examine the back of your eye, where the retina is. Your vision will be blurry and you will have increased sensitivity to glare – this should subside within 4 to 6 hours. Please note that you will not be able to drive home and will need to make other arrangements.
Treatments such as eye injections or laser therapy (which is different to laser eye surgery) may be performed on the same day, depending on the level of urgency. Retinal laser treatment is performed in the clinic.
Our corneal specialists commonly diagnose and manage disorders such as keratoconus, pterygium (Surfer’s Eye) and corneal dystrophies. They have expertise in performing complex procedures, such as corneal transplantation, scar excision and pterygium removal.
We also perform YAG laser capsulotomy for posterior capsule opacity after cataract surgery (to clear scar tissue from behind the lens).
