Behind the Federation-style facade is a modern and inviting clinic that is fully equipped for ophthalmic consultations, diagnostic testing and minor procedures, and a day surgery that is fitted with technology for complex surgeries. We have visual fields, optical coherence tomography (OCT) and A-Scan imaging systems located throughout our nine consulting rooms. Our day surgery is equipped with a femtosecond laser for laser cataract surgery, as well as state-of-the-art technology for glaucoma, corneal and oculoplastic surgeries.

The comfortable reception area has plenty to keep you entertained while you wait for your appointment, including free WiFi, a TV, daily newspapers and a range of up-to-date magazines for your reading pleasure. We also have a filtered water unit, should you need a refreshment. Keep an eye out for our impressive fish tank and the lovely artwork by our very own Dr Joe Reich.

Patients can attend our clinic for diagnosis and treatment of the full range of eye conditions. Diagnostic tests and minor procedures (e.g. eye injections) are performed in the consulting or treatment rooms within the clinic, while surgical procedures are performed in the co-located Camberwell Day Surgery and Boroondara Day Surgery.

Plenty of time is provided for patients to ask our friendly clinical team questions about their condition and treatment plan. If questions arise after your consultation with your ophthalmologist, an orthoptist will be available to provide clarification.

Members of our team also speak Turkish, Vietnamese, Cantonese, Mandarin and Filipino. If you prefer to have your consultation in one of these languages, please call the clinic and we will do our best to accommodate this.

Cataract surgery

Our highly experienced team of cataract surgeons perform cataract surgery using either traditional or laser-assisted techniques. During the procedure, the cloudy lens of the eye is removed and replaced with an artificial lens, known as an intraocular lens (IOL). Our surgeons offer a wide range of IOLs to suit different lifestyle and visual preferences, including the latest lenses that may help you get rid of your reading glasses. Your surgeon will have a comprehensive discussion with you to help you decide which type of cataract surgery and lens will suit you best.

Cataract surgery is performed in our day surgery.

Glaucoma treatment

Glaucoma specialists at Vision Eye Institute Camberwell have expertise in the full range of treatments to stop or slow disease progression. If a patient requires treatment in addition to medicated eye drops, our surgeons specialise in a variety of surgical procedures that reduce pressure in the eye. This includes filtration surgery (trabeculectomy), laser peripheral iridotomy, selective laser trabeculoplasty and minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (e.g. iStent). These procedures are performed in our day surgery.

Retinal procedures

We treat patients with retinal conditions such as age-related macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy. Eye drops are used to dilate your pupil so that the ophthalmologist can examine your retina (the tissue at the back of the eye). These drops will cause blurred vision and increase your sensitivity to glare for 4 to 6 hours, so you may not be able to drive home. We recommend making alternative transport arrangements.

Patients requiring eye (intravitreal) injections may be able to have these on the same day as their initial consultation, depending on the level of urgency.

Corneal procedures

Patients with keratoconus, corneal ulcers, pterygium (Surfer’s Eye), recurrent corneal erosion, corneal dystrophies and other corneal conditions can access a range of treatments at our clinic. Our corneal specialists have expertise in highly complex procedures such as corneal transplantation, corneal ring implants and collagen cross-linking.

Apart from minor procedures that can be carried out in the clinic consulting or treatment rooms, corneal procedures are performed in our day surgery.

Reconstructive surgery (oculoplastics)

Our surgeons specialise in reconstructive surgical treatment of the eyelids or the eye socket (e.g. eyelid tumours, eyelids that do not align properly or drooping eyelids). These procedures are performed in our day surgery.

Children’s eye health

During a comprehensive eye examination, we may perform tests to measure your child’s visual acuity (how well they can see) and their eye muscle health. We will also check for misalignment of the eyes and whether your child needs glasses.

Conditions treated include lazy eye (amblyopia), crossed eyes (strabismus), droopy eyelid (ptosis), progressive short-sightedness (myopia) and tear duct obstruction.
